A+ Training
Hey everyone. I've begun self-studying from the A+ Certification for Computer Skills exam. I'm gonna need to commit myself to this since my best friend is getting evicted from his house in two weeks and I would not feel comfortable moving out until we have passed the exam to get a decent paying job. If we can nail a job for about $10 an hour, we can live on our own pretty comfortably. The A+ exam is supposed to cover everything for essential knowledge on becoming a PC Technician. Although I already have a lot of experience with computers already, there are still a lot of things I don't yet understand. Namely in software, registry, etc. I'm also not proficient in understand electronics and electricity. I'm going to have to buff up my knowledge on that and generally how circuitry works. Any help (and that means you too, slayer) from anyone would be greatly appreciated. I'm starting by studying up on general electricity and whatnot. I'm mostly following the A+ Certification Guide for Dummies.

Good luck with this, FF! $10/hour and you can live comfortably? Are you sure about that? While I don't know the circumstances, be careful living with anyone who just got evicted.

You'll love it. The rules have changed a lot since I got certified. As you know you will have to pass 2 -*test*-('") and if I'm not mistaken the -*test*-('")s are much more difficult now. The new stuff like concepts related to environmental issues, professionalism, communication skills, safety, and security are now included in the new exam. I went to NTI for training and took the -*test*-('") right after I graduated so everything was fresh in my mind. Others waited and failed and had to re-*test*-('"). I know you have a lot of knowledge already but don't think its a cakewalk. Study hard and you'll do fine. The best of luck to you. Btw, check around for the best deals on exam vouchers. I tried getting an MCSE certification by studing on my own (without classes) but failed the -*test*-('") pretty badly and at $275 per topic.....well I decided against it. Plus every 4 tears you need to re-qualify.....yup, not for me. :D

You do not need to get re certified for the A+ and there is only one exam. You might be thinking of something different, slayer. Benson, I live in Texas. Apartment rents are around $550 - $700 a month. Everything is a bit cheaper in Texas than in other states because of a lack of state taxes and whatnot. If Jay and I had an $8 an hour job, we could do it. And Jay is my best friend. He's getting evicted because his dad can find no work in the current recession. No one's wanting to build all of the sudden. He's been a construction man most his life. Jay is an even harder worker than I am. I've known him for 7 years and our personalities don't conflict. We both highly value our privacy and splitting everything 50-50. I'm not worried about him at all. He's also trying to get the certification.

Its getting bad everywhere. I wish you guys well on your goal of achiving A+ certs and I'm sure you'll both will pass with no problem.

Hard study, easy exam. Easy study, hard exam. Good luck, for the both of you. And for Jay's dad.

I will be taking just the one CompTIA A+ exam and possibly taking another one sometime afterwards to specialize me more. I won't be taking the Microsoft one unless I have to. Thank you, grasshopper. I'll be sure to tell that to Jay's dad, too.

Grasshopper is wise FF, heed his wisdom. When you can snatch the pebble from his hand and then learn to walk on rice paper without leaving a mark and pick up a glowing red hot cauldron with your forearms and you will know enlightenment. 8)
