Actual Antarctic Stations
It looks like whoever was in charge of actually researching real stations in Antarctica was pretty thorough. Outpost 31 seems to be portrayed fairly accurately, at least from the outside. You can find a list of every station there at this link, and also find pictures of them to see how similar they look. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_research_stations_in_Antarctica If anything is inaccurate, it's the fact that Outpost 31 is significantly smaller in size than what U.S. stations actually are there.

They do look smaller and fairly run-down when compared to the film's incarnation.

That are quite much bases.

Now that would make the re-make more interesting--The Thing in McMurdo Station. About 1200 people there.
