Blair in the Tool-Shed
I remember the first time i saw the Thing movie back in 1986 the thought occured to me when they put Blair in the tool-shed "boy, if he isnt already infected, he will be soon". I knew even then (I was 11), that Blair would be helpless against any Thing-Beast. So wouldnt any other members of the crew think that too?? Its seem cruel and heartless to do something so "wrong" to someone so helpless and probably was your friend.

Indeed. Although Blair may well have been a Thing at this point in the film, this is a possibility that didn't seem to occur to the others, who just treated him as a normal human being who had flipped. The effect of the sedative would have been sufficient to pacify him. Isolating Blair put not only his life in jeopardy, but also those of everyone else since anyone placed in solitary confinement would present an opportunity for The Thing. "For your health" - nothing could have been further from the truth. Here, as elsewhere (especially towards the end of the film) the men at Outpost #31, especially MacReady, failed to appreciate the importance of everyone sticking together. XidiouX

I felt the same way when I first saw it GhodiGirl. I was like, "They can't put him out there, he's a sitting duck out there!" If I were in a situation like that, I'd see to it that everyone stays in groups of at least 3, chosen at random so that two Things are less likely to gang up on one normal person. As for Blair, they should have tied him to something. It's not like they lacked the materials for it.

As for Blair, they should have tied him to something. It's not like they lacked the materials for it. I have to admit, I'm all for putting him in the shed. Look at it from the POV of everyone else; they're trying to deal with the fact that one or more of them could be a Thing and now they have a dangerous raving person - who's already smashed up the radios, helicopters, snowmobiles, killed the dogs, beaten up Windows, and taken potshots at Childs - to deal with. My first reaction would be to get him out of the main building and somewhere he can do no harm. I remember watching The Thing for the first time. After the blood -*test*-('") scene I remember this huge wave of relief that the Thing had been defeated. Then they remember about Blair and I just thought, "Oh shit..."
