Create an NPC
Yeah, I felt like making a "Create a character" thread just for the hell of it. So, yeah, make a character just for fun. If you could have an NPC be in the game, what would his name be, what class would he be, how easily could he be scared, how easily could he get infected, what kind of quotes would he use in different situations (besides the standard ones), etc.? I dunno why, but something told me to make this thread, so I did. So, since I started it, I'll go first (note: I'm not very good at this, so pardon my crappiness) (second note: most of my quotes are cheesy, and that's intentional): Name: Avery Class: Soldier Fear: Very low. Only freaks out when unarmed in the most grotesque scenes, and when there's two or more walkers, or a walker and three or more scuttlers at once. Infection probability: If hit by a scuttler: 20%; a claw-arm walker: 25%; an infected NPC: 30%; a bulldog walker: 35%; a bipedal walker (I think that's what they're called? The really big ones with multiple legs): 40% Scripted burstout: No Disappearance between levels: No. If you can keep him alive the whole time, he'll die in a cutscene later. What takes place in that cutscene I'll mention below. Introductory cutscene: Yes. In the beginning of level 6, Avery is walking down the hall, looking for a place to hide from the Things, when he looks into the window of the door to the Medibay and sees Whitley and Faraday. After Whitley kills Faraday and deactivates the specimen termination sequence, he (Whitley) goes to the "front door", opens it, and finds Avery pointing a gun in his face. Avery pulls the trigger. Whitley falls down, and appears to be dead. Avery runs up to Blake and wakes him up. Blake and Avery begin talking for a bit (I'll come up with dialogue later), then Avery turns around and sees that Whitley is gone. The level begins with him on your team. He starts with a pistol with no ammo. (He used the last bullet to shoot Whitley.) Levels: 6, 7a, 7b, 8a. Yes, he makes it into the elevator with Blake at the end of level 7b. If he's still alive at the end of 8a, a cutscene will show where Blake, Powell (if he's still alive), and Avery are walking through the snow after leaving the warehouse, when suddenly a Thing comes up behind Avery and impales him on his claws. Avery pulls out a pistol (even if he didn't have one; like how Blake almost always has a machine gun in cutscenes even if you don't have one equipped or don't have one.) and shoots himself in the head to avoid being infected. Blake torches the Thing, and continues on. (Another note: If he was in the game, those levels he's on would be much, much harder than the original, to the point where you'll probably need him as extra firepower.) Custom quotes (he uses the standard ones, too): When killing scuttlers with guns: "Kill 'em all!" "How do you like the other side?" "This is OUR planet, bitch!" "Never fuck with humans!" When torching Things with the flamethrower: "Have a taste of Hell, asshole!" "I'll have the roasted alien, please. Hold the tentacles." (As I said, these are intentionally corny. What's an action game or movie without cheesy one-liners?) When alerted to the Things' presence, and waiting for them to show up: "Come here! We've got something for you!" "You've been buried in the ice too long. Let us help thaw you out!" When you accidentally shoot him in battle: "Watch where you're pointing that thing, idiot!" "Great job, dumbass!" "Do I look like a walking head to you?" "Thanks! I'll treasure this gift forever!" "Just whose side are you on?!" If you don't shoot for a while during a long battle: "What are you waiting for?! Kill them!" "Those Things aren't gonna just be our friends if we're nice to them! Shoot them already! If during battle, you keep missing enemies and hitting walls, etc.: "What the hell are you shooting at?" "How the hell did you manage to stay in the Marines with that accuracy?" "I didn't know the Thing could infect walls!" (Also, he actually says "Thanks." when you give him a weapon and/or ammo, instead of "Okay.", "Alright.", and "Yes, sir." like the other NPCs.) I'll think of more later. I'll probably come up with an appearance for him, too.

Well, creating NPCs could very well be possible in the game now. I remember that Camorgan came up a long time ago with a way to implement the player's face in the game, and I think I know how I could add new voices in the game. Oops forgot to add : I'm just speaking about adding voices and maybe faces to the game, doing the cutscenes as you tell them is impossible for me.

I remember that Camorgan came up a long time ago with a way to implement the player's face in the game, and I think I know how I could add new voices in the game. Well, that would certainly be cool. :P Oops forgot to add : I'm just speaking about adding voices and maybe faces to the game, doing the cutscenes as you tell them is impossible for me. Yeah, I knew that wouldn't be possible, but hey, it was just made up for fun. I wouldn't expect anyone to animate two entire sequences, especially just to introduce (and kill off) one new character, and since Blake talks in my made-up cutscene, you'd also have to find and hire the guy who V/A'd Blake to do his voice again, so yeah, impossible like you said.

This sounded like a cool idea, so I did it too. Name: Frank Class: Soldier Fear: Low, if not non-existent. Infection probability: 30% per hit. Scripted burstout: No Disappearance between levels: No. Can survive the whole game. Introductory cutscene: When you make it to Level 5a (I'm guessing that's the first sub level) He comes running to you and asks for your help. He comes with a shotgun. Levels: 5a-5b, 6-End He will be with you in 5a for sure, can survive to 5b, and if he's still alive, he should be in one of the cells in level 6. Custom quotes (he uses the standard ones, too): When you accidentally shoot him in battle: "God-(long pause)damn!" "I know whose side you're on!" Appearance: Regular soldier outfit, but has black hair and a big black beard. Caucasian.
