Ending discussion..... SPOILERS
So, with Mac piloting this helicopter, is he infected? I thought he stated in the movie that each part of The Thing was an individual creature, doing whatever it needs to survive, proven by Palmer when he pointed out Norris' head walking away, it reassured them Palmer wasn't infected, otherwise he wouldn't have said anything. So Childs freezes to death, and Mac either is rescued by a chopper, having outlasted Childs somehow, or somehow repaired the camp's helicopter. But seeing as thought Blair dismantled it for parts, and Nauls, Garry, and RJ blew up the spaceship in the making, all these parts would be destroyed. So how does Mac survive? If it meant he had to help kill Whitley by piloting the chopper for Blair, why not? It would ensure Blake's trust, and give Mac a free ride to the mainland....

To be honest, I think it's just kind of a \"Hollywood\" ending with a well known and liked character making his come-back to save the day. If Mac is a Thing, there is no reason for him to help Blake, as he could just attack him. Moreover, Blake knows about the -*test*-('") and could ask for a -*test*-('") for both of them once they landed. In the first script of the game, Childs and Mac's bodies were discovered at the base (level 1). At the end, Blake fought the Whitely creature by himself and killed It but was infected in the process. This would have been a much darker ending.

Wow, where can I get a look at that script Gary? That would have been fantastic, I think it would have made Carpenter a lot more proud of what they had already done. Kinda pisses me off they didn't go with that.... Yeah, that was kinda obvious about my theory, Blake would have made him take the -*test*-('") sooner or later, and if Mac wouldn't have it Blake wouldn't have much trouble frying him.

i wrote a fan-fiction based on the game... i didn't think the plot did the characters justice... cause the storyline for the game could've been damn sweet. so i redid it. SPOILERS, if you're interested in reading my fan-fic, Remnants of the Thing, titled as Remnants II on the Fan Fiction page... which is its filename and not the title (Todd, hint hint). Macready is human. Blake winds up being the infected one, though he is never really aware of it, and tries to assimilate Mac... causing the copter to lose control midflight and crash, killing them both. = - - = = - - = = - - = but as for my own thoughts on the ending, i figure it's meant to scare the viewer into thinking Mac is infected.

I don't know, I don't have the feeling that the end is done in a way that should scare the player. I don't remember the last words of the characters of the game but they seemed rather cool, far away from Mac and Childs's last words in the movie where paranoia can still be felt. I could be wrong though as I don't remember exactly what is said in the ending.

i didn't mean scare as in like... you know, actually scary. you know what i mean? i meant it like... well, you make them think he was infected, to say it plainly.

I think the last lines of the game were MacReady introducing himself like he does on that tape he records. DUN DUN DUN!
