FAQ: WHOSE SHADOW WAS ON THE WALL? Lets get the ball rollin'......
It was Palmer.
AnRkyst (SPC)- 07-28-2006
Yep, most definitely Palmer's. I actually had a nice argument posted on the previous forums showing that the \"Shadow Room\" is the same as Child's and Palmer's room.
Of course, the real guy who cast that shadow was some crew member.

A Mr. Dick Warlock....

Just for fun: Can Fuchs be the fourth candidate? He is the only one who did not turn into THING officially and never gave us a sample of his blood. Because of the coward nature of its predecessor, this incarnation of the THING was a bit paranoic. When it left Fuch's table to follow the unnamed figure, the old itself realizes its new identity and in the moment of panic it chooses to commit suicide. It opens another barrel and torches itself. No sound, no screams, no signs of fight, nothing. Then the figure (Palmer?) returns, picks Mac's pants from the ground and continues to the shack.

Which part of the movie was this?
triffid- 08-25-2006
What do you mean? The name of the thread reffers to the moment when the fist dog sneaks through the corridor, comes to a door and we see a shadow of a man inside of the room behind the doors - i.e. its first victim. There is always 1% chance that this scene does not actually end with infecting of the man, of course. But if so, then there was no reason to shoot the scene at all.

Sorry, I somehow missed that, my bad.
I'm pretty sure the shadow on the wall had to be Norris because the silhouette just seemed to match his body type and hairstyle.
I'm also betting this is when he got infected as it was the perfect opportunity but I don't think he was taken over as was Bennings, I think the dog simply licked him or something so he was unaware he was a Thing until later on.
Chair Thing- 09-07-2006
Irrespective of who it was, the \"take over\" had to be \"clean.\" What I mean is that the Dog-Thing couldn't have mauled the owner of the shadow (eg. you couldn't have a Bennings style take over). What do you all think?
Z@3 Redrum- 09-08-2006
It was Norris, Palmer has a little less round head.
Algol- 09-08-2006
Yeah, I agree it was Norris too. Palmer probably got stoned every night and watched tv or something, Norris was kind of fat so he would have sat like the shadow did.

What Todd said, it's already been established on the old forums long ago.
Algol- 09-12-2006
How was it established?

Darned if I remember which is part of the sadness of losing the old forums in their entirety.
I'll hazard a guess from faulty memory: I seem to remember it was from one of the interviews, most likely the DvD behind the scenes one. I'll watch them again sometime and keep an ear out for that.
Dick Warlock was a stuntman and I believe also dabbled in acting/effects and he worked on many movies. The shadow is almost unmistakeably his if you've seen him.
In any case, I seem to remember that JC said something like \\"we had a stuntman (or effects guy or whatever) do the shadow\\" but I could be wrong.
Old timers, help me out here please.

Read the FAQ... Carpenter told that it was neither David Clennon nor Charles Hallahan who played the shadow on the wall. It was a standup chosen so that we can't know if it is Palmer or Norris. So, there is no way to define this by looking at the shadow.
But if we're talking about personal opinion, mine is that it is Norris. :P
TannerBoyle- 09-17-2006
It was me!
But, seriously folks...I think it was Palmer.
