Help in the first level (sad, I know).
I own The Thing for PS2, but I sold my PS2, so I just picked it up for PC. For some reason I can't get out of the first level. I do everything the strategy guides say. I fond all pages of the autopsy report, the fire extinguisher, the adrenaline, the tape recorder, the ufo, etc. I plant the C4 charges in the building and when I go to the Evac point, the chopper never comes. Am I missing something. The objective "retrieve evidence and rescue any survivors" is active. I've been through the entire level several times. I can't imagine I'm missing anything. Thanks all.

Have you placed two charges, one in the lab and one in the room at the beginning of the level ?

Yes. I've planted both. I really don't know what I could be missing. And like I said, I have played the PS2 version and I don't ever remember having a problem with the first level. I've used the computer, found all 5 pages of the autopsy report, found the hypo, etc. Now I'm just running around freezing my men and myself to death.

Have you come back near the flares indicating where the chopper supposed to pick you up is ? I don't see what could be the problem other than that.

I've stood right in front of the crashed chopper. I've stood next to every flare. I've thrown some flares of my own. I've stood in the center of the circle until we all froze to death. No chopper. It's driving me insane.

Have you found Child's dead body?

Yes. I did all that. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the game and now it works. WTF? Who knows. Anyway, thanks for all the responses!

Well, I definitely did not think of that solution for a script problem ! :p Anyway, glad to hear that you found the solution. If you're interested in a different take on the game, you can download my mod from the stickied topic. Just keep in mind that it's kind of buggy and that you have to install it exactly the way indicated in the readme to have fun with it. :)

Hahaha. As long as the helicopter comes to get me, I'll definitely give it a try.
