Ideas for a mod.
Okay, I am planning on makeing a mod on the Unreal Engine 3. It will be a multiplayer only mod. The overall concept is a group of players have to complete a set objective while one or more of them is The Thing. The thing will try to asismalate them. I want the mod represent the movie. I want there to be mistrust and slow paced, while being fun. I have many ideas. But I have no time right now. Do you have any ideas or thoughts? The main problem oh transferring the ideas of the movie onto a video game is keeping it fun. There will be a set group of player that join a game. One or more will be randomly chosen as the thing. If the player is Assimilated should that player turn to the Thing's side, or should he die and become part of the other Player. Should the players have only one life? If they do It can become a slow game. If someone dies they will have to wait and wait till the round is other. Another thought. Should there be any NCP enemies? Just have them for the fun of it.

Okay, I am planning on makeing a mod on the Unreal Engine 3. I didn't think Unreal Engine 3 was released yet. Do you mean Unreal Editor 3? I've played around Unreal Editor 3.0 in the past. Do you have to use Unreal Script to get the NPCs to do what you want?

Yeah, It hasn't been released it. Im basing my knowledge off of Unreal Engine 2. This mod wont have NPC's I think. Im just planning my idea....It want it based of the movie with the idea of trust and paranoia.

Just out of curiousity, why not use a more robust engine such as HL 2 or Doom 3? Virtually any review you read states the simple fact that the Unreal Engine is showing it's age so by the time you have anything ready, it will look pretty crappy by modern gaming standards. HL2's engine is continually being optimized, upgraded and improved so you can be sure that your game world will look up to par for years to come.

The way I see it, make a base like in the thing with multiple buildings (toolshed, Macs shack) and have random objectives, all with timers, thus forcing players to split up in order to win. have a frost resist type thing so players cannot be outside for too long. also, have a headset radius so you cant give the thing away early in the game. also add limmited vision for the raging storm outside :)

I'm quite sick of mods like the thing, One instance, there is a Garrys Mod mod called "Parasite", a perfect idea really, the same as the thing, until you find that the alien is faster, can turn in less than a second, can take a beating, and can kill you in one hit, that immediately turned me off, make it fair for the survivors (seriously, its a human model one second then its the alien model out of nowhere)
