Looking for Suplements (cheap, natural, no gimmicks) To health "fanatics" or rather those in the know;
I am looking for natural sources, preferable foods and drinks, but I would accept pill supplements, with incredible high concentration of the following:
L-ARGININE HCL
L-LYSINE
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,

B-Man,
These are both essential amino acids, they make up protein. You can easily get enough through proper diet.
Good sources of L-Arginine are nuts and seafood. L-Lysine can be found fish, eggs, and beans. If you buy them as a supplement they are safe to take just don't overdue it. You can get them at any health food store, might be pricey.
The only amino acid I supplement is L-Glutamine. That is a good one to take in extra of.
In general eat a healthy diet overall.

Thanks a bundle T!
I somehow knew that if anyone could effectivelly and coherently answer my querry would be you!
I still have a question though; what's in L-Glutamine that you would extra-supplement yourself? Like you said, eat right, balanced diet, excercise and healthy lifestyle should be enough for your body to produce all those necessary aminos.... But sometimes your body needs more since modern diets often lack in certain things.
For example, the modern male doesn't consume enough zinc. Zinc defficiency can be linked to prostate problems and cancer in aging males, which is why some doctors actually prescribe extra zinc intake for some males who lack zinc in their daily diet...
My own doctor, before she quit the whole doctoring biz (because it was too expensive to keep up practice!) said to me that she hadn'd met a single male yet who had sufficient zinc in their normal diet. She's the one who suggested to me to take an extra 50mg of zinc every day.
But I digress...
For reasons I cannot explain here on this post, I myself need to find extra (and more natural if possible) sources of those aminos Arginine and Lysine. I already try to eat more fish (especially Salmon; higher concentration) and do eat some nuts whenever I can, but I am sure some supplements could provide me with more concentrated dosage.
And yes T, you are right; those health food stores do charge quite a bit for some supplements. They don't sell animos as is per se, but do offer weight training protein shakes with good amounts of these aminos in them... at a price... My brother Phil who's a weight trainer and educator said to me that unless I plan to train again, I shouldn't intake such protein shakes as they can add extra weight if I don't excercise the extra intake.
Thanks a bundle; any additional data is greatly appreciated!
Cheers,

Out of all amino acids L-Glutamine is the most found in skeletal muscle and is used by the body during times of stress, immune system function and recovery from hard/intense and extreme training. In hospitals they give it to people who are seriously injured; burn victims, etc.
Very true about zinc...I do supplement both zinc and copper extra on top of my regular daily multi-vit/min.
Your brother Phil is right, you don't wanna go pounding down protein shakes to get those extra amino's...you may likely gain weight (fat) from the extra calories. If you want extra Arginine and Lysine above what your diet allows take the single supplements.
I am going to the health store this afternoon...out of curiosity I will look into those two aminos.

Wow, thanks a bundle, T!
If you ever find anything about single simple supplements for those aminos (Argynine & Lysine) please let me know as the only "supplements" I found for those were those protein shakes and supplements for body builders... But nothing with just simple Argynine, like Zinc or Copper supplements.
It is weird because if one follows the "logic" behind what the manufacturers are doing, in Montreal only weight trainers would benefit from such supplements.
It would be as if the only way one could take extra zinc supplement would be in a multi-vitamin, because zinc as itself in a stand-alone supplment, would not be available.
When I went to a health products center, the people who worked there had absolutly no clue as to what my request was all about ("What's that, Arginyne? What does it do?"). Then when I tried my luck at the pharmacy, the lady seemed more interested in me than my request, so I walked out of that place with nothing but a big smile!
Anything you can find out T will be appreciated!
Cheers,

Hey B-Man,
I checked out both those aminos at the store yesterday, they are indeed available individually and much more affordably than I had thought, (the Lysine is much cheaper than the Arginine) and for a high quality brand name too. Same of course with zinc (and copper). So you are good to go.
Try to find a quality health food store, there will indeed be one in Montreal that will have what you are looking for. Search around. Try a GNC even.
Good Luck,
T

Thanks again T!
Well like I said in a previous post, it is as if Montreal health food stores and pharmacies are slightly behind with the times; Most have some supplements like Zinc or vitamins, but when it comes to the animos that I described, no one seems to know what I am talking about, except for those whey shake supplements in the body building section.
What's a GNC?
Maybe I'll have to stock up next time I'm in London, Ontario!
Cheers, thanks again!

Hey there T,
Thanks a million for these links & addresses; Place Versailles may be a bit too far from where I live as it is, but the downtown one may be on my next pit stop when I'm in that area!
Once again, Todd goes above and beyond the call of duty... I'll scope out the link / site and see what they have to offer!
Cheers, and I NEVER get lost in the storm... I just freeze up like a popsicle for a couple of years! Then you'll have to dig me out of the ice, cart me back, thaw me out, then I'll wake up, probably not in the best of moods....
Cheers!

Hey there,
I'm on the GNC site, and "lo & behold" there are those aminos, just like you said they were... It's amazing that in all these recent years of running around some areas of Montreal, pharmacies, drug stores, natural health food stores, and the like that I never once spotted these aminos offered as daily supplements. Like I said, it appeared that for the longest time, only whey shakes and other building building supplements seemed available.
Again I think it is due to the fact that I think the grand metropolis of Montreal isn't up to speed with the rest of the world when comes the time for out-of-ordinary diet supplements and the like. Although other supplement like lecithin and zinc (essential for the aging male by the way) have recently become readilly available, they weren't so easy to find only 5 years ago. I think that Montreal is catching up with the fact that some of its inhabitants take their supplements and nutrition seriously, and more people are becoming health-aware.
Thanks again; I'm gonna surf the GNC site a bit to get a good feel of what they have to offer.
Cheers,
