Lost ice block "The Thing" teaser trailer found!!
Ever since I read in this forum years ago about the "lost" teaser trailer I made it a personal quest to find. Last year I acquired a set of 1981 Universal trailers. I was told it included the "lost" trailer. Finally this evening I confirmed it. Included were (The Border, Missing, Conan, Dark Crystal, Cat People, The Thing and 1 or 2 others). Here are a few images:

My plans were to convert this to DVD. Since it is on 35mm most won't or can't even touch it. I have received some seriously expensive quotes to get it done. But it is still cost prohibitive to me. If there are a number of individuals interested maybe this is something we can go in together. So I'm just getting a feel at this point as I would love to get it done. So a few of us here weren't crazy. I do recall seeing that trailer at the drive-in, a long time ago. I think I have some ideas - I will be sending you an e-mail... Thanks for your time and effort to track down and successfully find this trailer. Great pics! T

Ditto Todd's first three words. Immense kudos and gratitude for these negatives alone. I'm actually 'looking' at the soundtrack on the left hand side of the film, 'seeing' it escalate over the first three frames (and fragment into some kind of explosion in the third?) and then come back down again for the fourth. I can't help but wonder what it sounds like. Also, the aspect ratio looks like 4:3. Was this for TV? XidiouX

My guess is theater preview only. Todd remembers seeing it there. I have done a bit of color correction on the images on my PC and they really look good. I really want to get this "Thing" converted to do some serious restoration.

Hi First excuse my English… I’m French !!! :) I found information about the future French DVD release of THE THING on a French website. According to a person who know an insider, the lost trailer will be on this French dvd !! I have no proof except a link to this forum. So many times I have read DVD specs right on studio websites listing details of bonus materials only to be dissapointed when they finally arrive missing the exact things the claimed to include. We will have to see. Please keep us informed.
