New Addition! Hello!
I'm a bit of a newcomer to this list so you'll forgive me if I restate questions/etc in my haste to make an introductory post!
I am a professional artist and, as of last year, have finally started engaging in riskier camping scenerios-- one of the main draws of the upcoming 2009 trip! Immediately, I think of a tiny, tiny Burning Man in the arctic and find that I'm so intrigued I can't think of anything else before I send off the email stating my wish to attend. I've survived 110+ temps at 4000ft elevations in the middle of the god damn desert-- I think I can handle the chill as well, having hailed from Wisconsin (and, it helps that I adore the snow and ice).
Anyway-- this is just an idea.
Now-- given my own 'lol Burning Man' rememberances, I was wondering: out of those of you who are interested in going, are there any others who are artists?
I am a trained visual artist majoring in graphic design and illustration, but by the time the trip occurs I will be well on my way to a film major. What may or may not be an interesting venture for people is creating art tailored specifically for this upcoming event. It might take a bit more time to transport, but it could definitely make for a VERY interesting atmosphere for people who want to brave the elements.
It's doubtful that there'll be a giant wicker Thing to burn in effigy (as much as that'd be both ironic and hilarious all at the same time), but since people are going, why not bring themed sculptures and the like to add to the time capsule idea?
Anyway-- it's a VERY quick thought to add to the introduction. At the very least, I'll probably be seen there with a few canvases and sketchbooks to get sketches down of the surroundings-- and maybe I'll get so good at basketweaving that people do, indeed, have a wicker Thing to light on fire.
'Freezing Thing Man' doesn't really have a great title to it, though, really.
This is by no means suggesting a hippie party in the middle of the mountains. But it's something to think about!
I look forward to further discussions with the lot of you.
