Not eating before workouts I've read a few times on this forum that working out before eating for the day is good? I always thought that it's best to eat within the first hour of waking up. Is this only good for cardio or lifting weights too.

Exercising before breakfast is for someone looking specifically to lose bodyfat. If you are gonna lift weights in the AM I recommend you eat at least 60-90 mins before. It is better to weight train in the afternoon or evening after you have eaten a few times already.
Train Hard!

What should I do if I'm looking to lose a some body fat and gain muscle?

Cardio burns fat, weights builds muscle. I gotta know stats to help you out more; age, height, weight, goals, etc.

I'm 20, 5'5, 143, mainly just want to lose the additional midsection fat I have and tone up a bit more. I started working out in the beginning of 2006 and I was about 200 then. This summer I've done a lot more cardio and went from 153 to 143 so far. At first I was running 3 miles a day, but I changed my routine to 2 miles out on my road, then 10 minutes on the treadmill when I get back and then 5-10 mins of jump roping and then I stretch and work on either one or two muscle groups. I usually wake up around noon on days I don't work and I start working out around one. I've tried running/working out on an empty stomach my last 5 workouts and while I like it I'd like to know if it's something I should be doing or not.
Mondays:off
Tuesdays - Thursday: Workouts
Friday-Sunday: Work
I don't get very good hours at my job and every week is different for what days I'll be working so I have to plan my workouts around my work schedule. Sometimes I workout before I go to work, but lately I haven't been and I don't usually work out on days I play tennis. I change my workout routine a lot so this is just what I've been up to for about the last two weeks.

Sounds like you are doing great so far, stay with it. Keep your diet clean, eat 4-5 medium sized meals/snacks throughout the day. Lotsa water, avoid any and all sugar - it's in a LOT of processed food. Eat your veggies.
You probably don't need to do early AM cardio on an empty stomach. Basically keep doing what you are doing - working out!

Yeah I need to clean up my diet a little bit. I usually eat two or three meals a day which are just your normal breakfast, lunch, and dinner and breakfast gets skipped a lot. Mainly I stay away from fast foods and soda, but chocolate is still my weakness.
I had another post, but I decided to just combine it with this one. Do you know any good drills to do when working with a punching bag? I'm thinking about buying one to make things a little more interesting.
Thnx for your help.

WBTW,
I know zip about punching bag and/or boxing work.
Try to eat more often than 2-3 times a day, try 4-5. spaced as 3 medium meals and two larger snacks. Be sure to eat breakfast and limit the chocolate of you are looking to lean up still. Once a week treat.
