Palmers Bloodtest
I watched The Thing for the umpteenth time last night and was wondering: When the hot wire hits Palmers blood and leaps out, off screen we hear someone shout "Get away from me!" I kind of think that this is the last remnant of Palmers humanity warning the others of his impending emergence. What do you guys think, is it Palmer that shouts this?

What I've heard is that in one version of the scene, Palmer started screaming, people said different things and so on. This version of the scene was abandoned but the audio was kept, that is why you hear somebody say "get away from me" (never noticed it, but it is probably Garry) and someone who starts screaming which is Palmer. But in the scene, you see that Palmer stays silent while you hear the scream, so we assume that it is somebody else who screams in fear. Anyway, that's what I heard a while back, don't know if it is correct but it makes sense to me. :wink:

The person screaming is Nauls. Though if you look at Nauls in the scene (he's in the background slightly out of focus) his mouth is not moving or anything. It seems they did use a sound dub for an alternate take of the scene but I've never heard any mention of Palmer's reaction.

You can see it in the trailer, where there is a quick cut of Palmer's screaming. This doesn't prove of course that it is Palmer who is screaming, just that there was a different version of the scene where he did not stay still as we see him in the final version. That brief glimpse of Palmer there was fascinating. I'm pretty sure the person screaming is indeed Nauls, as it just sounds like him (to me at least). However I wonder how much that clip would change our understanding of the Thing if it was included in the movie.

The Screams...
i remember hearing someone yelling to this effect: GET ME OUTTA HERE!!! Just GET ME OUTTA HERE!!! and someone saying: Macready...GET IT!! TORCH IT!!! AHHH!!! someone mentioned on this board a long time ago that nauls looked extremely scared as to what's happening around him...t.k. carter's acting right there was spot on....

Yeah, that was me. T.K. is a terrific actor in this film - especially when he is let back inside, the scene with Mac in the store room, and the blood -*test*-('"). He is scared shitless. Nice job. T

Guys the screaming belongs to THE THING it is not any of the humans that are screaming. Remember the dog kennel scene when the dog mutates and Clark stands outside the kennel you can hear disturbing human screams. And clark says its something WEIRD and pissed off. Since i first saw this film i always knew that it was the thing screaming in the palmer scene, not palmer or any of the other humans.

That's The Thing screaming?!? I always liked to think that but damn that's fuckin creepy! How the hell would that make sense though?

Yeah, but still, that's pretty far-fetched! Carpenter tends to do creepy stuff like that a lot with his movies. Such a brilliant director.

The one shouting GET AWAY FROM ME!! is gary i am pretty confident in that, you can tell by the voice. I belive he shouts this to the blood when its scurrying away. He looks down at the blood and then you hear -get away from me. then later gary says burn it macready (the blood)
