No, if that were the case, there would be another gigantic thing in the greenroom, as cool as it would look (just imagine a malformed herbal plant lol)
But yeah, I think the thing can only assimilate other living beings.

Sitting targets, indeed.
My suspicion is that it could, and if the situation made it worthwhile for it to do so, then it would. However, since plants can't move, they would, in general, be of very little, if any, value to The Thing. Indeed, what can plants actually do? Not much. They just sit there and slowly grow. As such, they have very little to offer The Thing in terms of their abilities.

The Thing VS Triffids would be an interesting match up.

Hey! Why you gotta hate on plants? They're alive, they evolve, reproduce, respirate and eat.
That's why vegetarians crack me up (the ones that do it because they don't like to eat other forms of life). Idiots.
Lazy hunters I call them!

lol I didn't mean it like that, but I'm just guessing that the thing wouldn't be able to infect plants if the weed plants weren't infected in the film.
Of course, maybe it's possible that the thing simply doesn't want to as a weed-plant-thing would prove worthless as marijuana affects the thing greatly.
XidiouX- 02-03-2008
Marijuana is probably the plant that The Thing would be least inclined to assimilate, if it understood what typically happens to it - it gets burnt.

Well yeah lol that too!

When The Thing starts mutating in the Kennel one of the things that pops out looks like a huge flower
death_rocker110- 02-05-2008
Yeah but it's not, it's just apart of the dog-thing mutation.
XidiouX- 02-08-2008
Perhaps one the the Norwegians it assimilated was a hippy.

That would make it a post-70's hippie! *cringe*

Seems like a plant would be great for long term-survival. Pollination would allow it to spread over vast areas quite quickly. It could also ensure survival in the universe by imitating lichen I suppose. Then again, the Thing does appear at least to be an intelligent creature.
GhodiGirl- 02-10-2008
After thinking about it for a few days I now believe that the Thing could not take over a plant cell. I believe this because of the nature of a plant cell. Plant cells have a very tough cell wall. I do not believe that the Thing cells could pierce the walls.
