Good, god, XidouX. How on earth did you afford that?
Besides, I could've built it for your cheaper.
XidiouX- 05-01-2008
Yes, I was a bit of a naughty boy doing that but not feeling buyer's remorse - yet! I'm starting a new job next month after a long and difficult search for something suitable, so I though what the hell, I deserve a little present, even if it's me that's buying. And besides, I'll be paying it up over the next three years (after which, my cellphone will probably be more powerful!)
UPDATE 08/05/08: Speakers have been delivered. Could try them out with my laptop but I've decided to wait until the rest of the beast arrives.

UPDATE 12/05/08: Change of plan regarding delivery. It's coming tomorrow morning instead of 21 or 22 May.
It grieves me to report that, sadly, 100,000 people have died in Burma as a consequence of this machine. Mother Nature was doing a -*test*-('") run of the kind of weather conditions that will be required to cool the motherboard/graphics cards.
They will be in my thoughts as I proceed with a tearful eye and a strong trigger finger through Crysis.

(I'm sorry, that wasn't very nice. But it was impossible to resist. )

Lol, oh my god, Xidoux!
FarCry 2 is going to be better than Crysis I hear, and less of a system hog, too.
I haven't tried Crysis yet, but I will soon since I'm working almost full-time now.

If anyone needs config files to run Crysis with XP at better fps or want it to look like D10 Vista then lrt me know.
Future Filmmaker- 05-15-2008
I might be needing it soon. Once I get a stable income, Crysis is mine! And I refuse to buy Vista, I'm sticking with XP and DX9.

The 'Thing' has arrived and it's given me my first experience of Vista. Now, I've only had this Thing for two days and I don't want to make any premature judgements, so these are really just first impressions.
1) It is, admittedly, much slicker and more professional looking than XP, which does tend to look a bit 'Fisher Price' by comparison. Even the simple change of 'My Computer' to 'Computer' is significant and seems to represent a general decision to stop infantilising the user...
2) ...but perhaps I spoke too soon there. "Do you want to do this"? "Do you want to do that?" "Are you sure?" "Are you really sure?" "Are you really, really sure?"
3) All of my peripherals work apart from my scanner. Maybe I'll try the XP driver or some generic TWAIN thing.
4) Quake 4 multiplayer doesn't seem to work. Just installed SP1. No idea yet if that will have any effect.
5) STALKER looks incredible on my 24" monitor and with 5.1 speakers. Yeah, after having been stuck with laptops for the past few years, I really found it quite something to behold.
6) It seems to be more of an evolution than a revolution really. No major operational complaints but I don't think it's worth the upgrade price. I know that I wouldn't have bought Vista if I didn't need a new PC (and I did - my laptop is my employer's property and I will have to return it when I move to my new job in three weeks time.)
7) Going back to 1) and the overall visual style, it just occured to me that the sharpness and clarity of Vista, when contrasted with the theme of comfort, which seems to characterise XP, might be a good thing. Seriously, I think this could have a beneficial psychological effect on users and who knows how many correct decisions - decisions that could affect our lives in various ways - will be made by users of Vista which would not have been made with had they been using XP. Of course, it's possible to have this kind of visual style in XP, but how do you get everyone to make the necessary changes?

The main complaint I have about Vista is the DRM feature, which is not good for pirates like me. It's basically like using the Patriot Act to look inside your hard drive. I'm gonna have to wait until after the elections and see if someone repeals the Patriot Act and then maybe I'll get Vista.
Also, be careful because Vista likes to switch around file directories to where you can't find it.

Ok. It's been a while since I posted my first specs. What I can say is that the system as mentioned never got built. I went through moving to a new place, and so was unable to build my new system until now. While what I build doesn't quite stack up to XidiouX's system I think it comes close.
Btw grats XidiouX.. that is a killer sounding machine.. I guess it is true that if you flip the switch on a crazy fast machine, there's a hurricane in China =)
