"The MacReady" - Comedy re-edit of The Thing on Yo
Thought that some of you guys might enjoy a comedy re-edit of The Thing I made and put on YouTube, called "The MacReady". I'm a huge fan of "The Thing" and have made several comedy films over the years based around it. (There's something about the stern tone plus the minimal (and minimalist) music in it that just invites a comedic reinterpretation. Anyhow, the comedy short is actually in two parts (It's around 13 mins total, and YouTube has a 10 min file size limit), and can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh_tqShzYg8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-ZItPGXa3c The basic premise (such as there is) is that due to a freak scientific experiment gone awry, all 12 members of US Outpost #31 have become immortal. They've subsequently become cavalier about burning, shooting and maiming each other at the sligh-*test*-('") provocation, or simply out of boredom. MacReady is the most feared of them all, and has a special alarm that he sounds whenever he's about to deal out some severe punishment. BTW I'm open to suggestions regarding ideas for new scenes. I created the first basic version of "The MacReady" waaaaay back in 1991 (on VHS) and the new digital version has evolved slightly from that. Some scenes dropped by the wayside, and I've added a few new ones in. It's always evolving, so if anyone has some ideas for additions that could go into version 3 (or tweaks to existing scenes), be my guest. One thing I'd say at this point is that there's a constant tension between comedy and continuity. Sometimes the continuity is clearly compromised (like when Garry changes from having his normal shirt to wearing his dressing gown when turning Windows' headphone volume up) but I actually find that kinda funny anyway. Whenever I attempt to priotitise continuity, it usually affects the pacing and bogs the scene down.

I'm bumping this! Hilarious! I love the scene where Windows and Blair are barking at each other about trying to get a hold of someone on the radio and suddenly Blair flips, "I'll kill you!" Also, Fuchs and Mac in the Tractor. Umm. That's some gay tension right there. AND you can never have to many shots of Mac running through the corridors. I also like when Copper death-screams when he gets the syringe. Mac: "Someone more even tempered Childs." BANG! blows Clark away. Go ahead Childs, burn me... BOOM!
