Russia beats Holland, victory well deserverd
Dear Friends and Members of the Outpost #31, It's over. Holland have left the tournament after the Russians defeated us. The victory was well deserved, as the Russians were more agressive, playfull and much more dangerous 'in the box'. Needless to say that I am very sad about this outcome, but there's nothing our side can come up with. During the game Holland never rised to it's intended level, much by the doing of the Russians. Over 100.000 (!) countrymen went over to Basel, Switzerland, but were denied the victory. The Russians took lead in the second half, followed by a late equaliser by Ruud van Nistelrooy. In the extended part of the game, the Russian scored two times more. With this, they qualified for the semi-finals. Dutch goalie van der Sar stated that this was his last game for the Dutch, he defended our goal for over 10 years. Coach Marco van Basten starts to be the head-coach of Ajax Amsterdam. The Russian side scores. Van der Sar and van Bronckhorst are to late. I finish by saying that I hope that the Russians take it to win the finals, even more because their coach is Dutchman Guus Hiddink.

That's dam sporting of you GH to wish the Ruskis well after they knocked out Holland from Euro2008. If anyone can get the Ruskis to the finals its got to be Guus. I still say Australia was robbed in the world cup in 2006 when that italian took a dive in the 87th minute! We could have been in the finals! It was the best team we have ever fielded yet there are signs that Pim is shaping the Soceroos into a formidible squad for world cup 2010. We'll be fighting our way thru the asia matches but I think we'll make it.

Well, that's football, Talwyn. The Russians were just one number too big for us. Look, the Socceroos and the Dutchies will rise to the occaision in the world cup 2010. Because the Lion still lives......

On Sunday, the Soceroos were defeatted by China 1 - 0 in another qualifying round and on home ground! Australia had many good chances to score but couldn't convert the opportunties. Now we face a reall battle to even the score when we play away. The good news is that a lot of veteran players where off the team for one reason or another and that the next series of matches will be consisting of a full squad with Harry Kewell as captain.

A rule in football is that when you miss a lot of chances, you are probably not 'in' the game. Chances are that your defence will not be 'in' the game as well. Playing away games.......just remember that a spectator has never scored a goal, buddy. Even more, there nothing more beautifull than play a whole stadium silent. I always like it (even if it's against the team that I support) when a striker scores and he makes the 'sssst' sign. Good luck against the Chinese. Mind that they probably don't know Kung Fu
