Greetings from a french fan! (English is not my native language, so please forgive the unavoidable spelling mistakes I may make...) Dumont d'Urville is the name of the french Antarctican outpost, in the Terre d'Adélie (600 miles away from MacMurdo). I have noticed it is the nearest base of importance close to the magnetic pole, and since the original novel from Campbell is supposed to occur there... well... :roll: _______ I have discovered "The Thing" first via the novelization written by Alan Dean Foster, and nicely translated in french. I have seen the movie only a few years later (in the mid eighties), and still, more than twenty years later, this story continues to haunt me, thanks to its various implications. It is a real masterpiece, something unique. I'm not a great fan of horror/gore movies, or even special effects (not at all!). But there, there is something else within each character, the way the story is told and shown. We could discuss about philosophy, science, psychology, and even politics through it... I'm always amazed how rich can this subject be...
