The Thing on Blu-Ray Now that the HD-DVD format seems to be dead, it's interesting to speculate in relation to if/when The Thing will be released on Blu-Ray. I found the following link interesting:

Now that Toshiba seems to be on the verge of dumping, or perhaps already has dumped HD-DVD, I think it's reasonable to expect Universal to start releasing movies on Blu-Ray from the beginning of June at the la-*test*-('").
Things have been moving very quickly over the past few weeks in relation to the collapse of HD-DVD and perhaps someone has/can obtain more up-to-date information on Universal's position on the matter.

I hope so cause I don't have a HD-DVD player at all and of course I don't want it right now with Toshiba allmost quiting HD-DVD.

Now that the format war is officially over, I look forward to the Blu-ray version of "The Thing." That said, it's going to be a while before we see it on shelves, considering there aren't that many manufacturing plants for Blu-ray right now and ramping up production will take time. Besides, Blu-ray players are still pretty expensive, so I'm willing to wait a while for prices to come down.

I think that Sony can now take their time when its comes to "reducing" the price of the Blu-Ray players.
They're likely going to ride this one...all the way to the bank.

The only movies I would consider to buy on Blu-Ray right now are The Thing and Platoon, when those get in the shells I run to the shops to get me a disc, can't wait really. The quality of the media is magnificent.

Good news to me because i am planning to buy a ps3 coupled with a 720p projector. And i hope that pioneer will release their new dolby headphone system since i cant find their old model anywhere in my country.

I'm sure it will come out in the US/Canada as well, though.

Universal releasing it here in Blu-Ray on 9/30 Universal releasing it in North America in Blu-Ray on 9/30
Right now it looks like it's going to be a bare-bones version with only the Commentary ported over.

According to Amazon.co.uk:
Escape from New York and The Fog are also being released in EUROPE on Blu-Ray on 8/4. Don't have any U.S. release dates for these.

Here in the U.K, it appears that Carpenters films are being released on Blu-ray via 'Studio Canal'. His 1980 'The Fog' has just had it's release here on Blu-ray. Sadly, like 'The Fog' and James Camerons 'Terminator 2' also released on Blu-ray by Studio Canal, both those films are films only and no extra's.
'The Thing' could also go the same way.

I'm sure for the next few years BluRay releases will be the same in content as the regular DVDs if not much less. This way the can rape us with re-releases for years to come each version adding an extra feature here and there. Much like Anchor Bay and the Evil Dead and Halloween films are handled.
