With those files for the NPC entities, does that mean that you would be able to customize the NPCs? As in, give them different suits, backpacks, etc? I remember that you were able to change their names, so surely you could change their appearances, too? Just an idea. And would that mean that it would be possible to have a trooper on your team, too? Or are the troopers different from the NPC entities? They most likely are, but hey, just a thought. :P

Well, even in version 0.1 of the mod, there are some surprises about "appearances" of the NPCs.
About the regular NPC and a trooper NPC, the AI is different but they can share the same outfits (that's how fisk got his I suppose... In the first and second trailer of the game, he is seen as a member of the marine corps).
The Last Digit of Pi- 07-18-2007
So would that mean that you could customize an NPC to look like a trooper, mask and everything, but still have a teammate NPC AI?
Gary- 07-19-2007
Yep, I even think that it could be something very simple to do.
The Last Digit of Pi- 07-19-2007
Cool. Personally, I'd like to see that, if you didn't mind placing a trooper NPC or two in the game. Of course you don't have to, just saying that it's a cool idea. :)

I'm writing the Readme right now for the first version of the mod. It should be out in a couple of hours now.
I'm going to offer it on a private server first, you guys -*test*-('") it and if everything seems ok, I'll send the file to Todd so he can offer it on Outpost 31.
The Last Digit of Pi- 07-19-2007
Well, I just ordered the PC version last night, so it'll be a few days before I can try it out.
Gary- 07-19-2007
Well not a problem either, I just want to make sure that there isn't a problem with the instructions for setting up the mod.
The Last Digit of Pi- 07-19-2007
Okay. I'll try it out after I get the game, and after I play through once normally to get used to the controls. :)
I followed the instructions and installed the mod last night, and nothing is unclear, no problem encountered during installation. (And it's an excellent readme file ,by the way )I didn't have a lot of time to play last night, I only got to the level where you first met carter. And I can't believe I am saying this but I almost got lost in the storm/blizzard where I went outback in the camp to get the MP5 and some ammo. This is going be great!
Gary- 07-20-2007
Ok, that's cool as I really feared that the readme wasn't clear enough.
Yes, the blizzard is much more dangerous now, and it's easy to get lost, that seemed to me much more close to the movie.
By the way, as you are in level 2A, you will soon see that things are much harder now : getting Carter and Cruz to follow you, as well as defeating the first scuttlers you meet won't be a walk in the park anymore. I hope it won't get too frustrating though. Remember that I have managed to end the level myself, so it is definitely possible.
If you have trouble, tell me and I will give you some advice. Remember that Carter has to live until he has repaired the two fuses boxes and you need at least one NPC alive when you go into level 2B.
Just one quick piece of advice : to gain the NPCs' trust, you'll have to battle Things in front of them, this is important to make them trust you. If one of your NPCs is in orange (he won't follow you but won't attack you either), try coercing him so that he follows you and sees that you are battling Things. Watch out though as coercing is also a huge trust loss (that I'd like to change if I could in the engine as it is too much) so if you don't battle Things before the end of the coercion time, you will have a very pissed off NPC with you.
Also remember that as soon as the NPCs won't see you, they will start to lose trust in you. So, avoid letting alone NPCs who are not far away from the orange state. Also remember that any NPC can now be infected, and a burstout is now a much more dangerous enemy than before...

I just thought of something. Maybe you could edit the text of the documents in the first level to make them more accurate, seeing as how they made a couple of mistakes? Report #1 says something like "The creature has the ability to replicate the original biological entity including the clothing" or something, and MacReady stated that it rips through your clothes. Maybe you could change it to say "The creature has the ability to replicate the original biological entity, except for the clothing" or something like that. And #4 stated that "If an infected entity reaches the mainland, then global infection will occur in approximately 72,000 hours.", while Blair's computer in the movie said 27,000 hours.

Hey Gary, thanks for the tips! I managed to get carter trust to about 70-80% by giving me mp5 ammo, mp5 but especially by killing scutters (almost one by one by trapping them using the door) in front of him. It worked really well. And man, those scutters are realy hard to kill now, and so are the infectednpcs. And just as you discussed before, the teammate freaked out sometimes even though I tried to prevent it (which is excellent, because in the original, it never happened at all). (I had a guy shot himself in the head in the kennel when we were battling the scutters and that guy got scared by that dead dog/thing body& and the scutters, he was also trapped right near that body by those scutters. He sort of did me a favor because he saved me a blood -*test*-('") kit, plus Pierce and I only had Carter to worried about upon returning.
And having Pierce (among others..North etc) as a teammate, I cannot describe how much fun it is to play the game again. I look forward to playing past level 4 tomorrow.
1 major problem I have is that I cannot seem to do any coercing. I walked up close to the person with yellow trust level, place that target cursor on his head and waited at least 2 minutes, but nothing happened. Have you ever encounted this problem? Was I doing something incorrectly?
The Last Digit of Pi- 07-21-2007
That's odd, the coercion should work. :? All you have to do is make sure a gun's equipped, go into first person mode with whatever key and aim it at their heads, and wait about 10 seconds, and it should work.
