YAY! HES BACK! Cmere so i can give you an e-hug!

Gary- 08-12-2008

Thanks for the support guys, as I really need it. As much as I love the game, it takes me a lot of time to mod it and I know all the code behind the game so much now that it's almost not fun to play anymore for me. However, I'll continue to work on this mod as I'm sure it will be worth it for Thing fans who want a different experience with this game.

meteormike- 08-12-2008

Yay, now we're all here waiting again, giving suggestions.Whee! And you're almost done!

meteormike- 08-12-2008

Ugh, I'm probably screwing up the game too much, can you give me a modified version of the resources pak file of the already released mod? Cause i probably screwed something up with the informs or something, but i can just delete it and put in an already put together one in. so can you send a link to a download for it? Thanks.

Gary- 08-12-2008

http://dl.free.fr/pyF726WSy Remember to follow the readme STEP by STEP so that you don't have bugs this time. And remember also that this version is very far from the one I'm working on.

meteormike- 08-12-2008

I know. Hopefully this makes it work.

meteormike- 08-12-2008

Wait, this is the whole mod, what i need is the modified resources pack after you install it all, not the whole thing. Just a modded res file

Gary- 08-12-2008

There was no modified version of the resources pak, only some textures which had changed. There are in that one : http://dl.free.fr/mt1Jpo2pr

Gary- 08-14-2008

Mike, if it still doesn't work, the best thing to do is probably to reinstall the game entirely.

Hello guys a quick update to let you know that I finally made it possible that the NPCs fight each other ! :o It's still a bit buggy but I have good hope it will work. A fight can erupt between your men for several reasons : it can be a Thing in disguise trying to make your men fight against each other, or because of one of your men noticed something odd in the behaviour of another one and doesn't trust him anymore (it may be only paranoia... or he could be right  ). If you do not do something quickly, it is very likely that one or more of them will get killed, and your choices should depend of the situation : - if you don't have any blood -*test*-('"), the best course of action is probably to take the weapons away from the two (or more) guys who wants to kill each other. However, maybe in doing this you are taking away firepower from guys who are human, and giving it to Things in disguise. Without weapons, they won't be of much use if you run into scuttlers, for instance. - if some of the men who are fighting do not trust you, you will have to taze them to take their weapon away. But if you do not coerce them in coming with you, remember that, without weapon, they could be easy prey if a Thing finds them or if they are left alone with an infected NPC. A good solution is to leave them behind with a soldier you can trust to watch them. - Another solution is to split your men : take some of them with you and leave the others behind. Of course, it's up to you to do it wisely so that you won't let a Thing get away, or other people get infected while you're away. You'll be able to regroup once you'll have find blood--*test*-('") kits. - Use blood--*test*-('")s : if two men are pointing a gun in a third one's face, -*test*-('") the third one, this will resolve the situation (one way or another  ). It is possible that some men have been manipulated by a Thing-NPC in believing that an innocent guy is a Thing, so try keeping peace between your men but also think about who is taking advantage of the situation. Every time you use a -*test*-('") on an innocent NPC, this means that you have wasted a chance to uncover a Thing-NPC. As I said at the beginning of the posts, there are still some bugs, but things are looking good to implement all this in the mod version of the game. :)

Hello guys, just installed Fraps and Windows Movie Maker in order to show you some action in the mod : (scuttlers ambush and NPCs fighting) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7M7IzM1skNA (non-scripted -*test*-('") scene at the end of level 2B) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cziVzAp9p8 It's not edited or anything, low sound and the quality sucks but it still shows some of the changes, hope you'll like what you see. Edit: the videos are really dark, hope you'll be able to figure out what happens anyway. The next videos will be better, I hope, I made those ones in something like 10 minutes and it shows !

Hello guys, I'm kind of on fire on the mod at the moment and I managed to implement a "paranoia between NPCs" system which seems to work quite well (unlike before where it was a little too complicated to handle). So, here is how it works : - NPCs coming with you at the start of the level have proven they are human, so they trust each other. - NPCs they meet on the way are suspected to be Things. If those NPCs have weapons, your team will threaten and shoot them and the suspected NPCs will shoot back. If they don't have one, they won't be attacked but are still not trusted, so a suspected NPC won't be able to heal your men (which is kind of a good thing as if the suspected NPC is a Thing, he could infect your men that way). Clean medics won't heal them either. - Suspected NPCs can gain trust of other NPCs by getting blood--*test*-('")ed. - If you leave your team alone, there is a chance that one or more NPCs will become suspected to be Things by other NPCs. - If a NPC gets hit by a Thing, there is a chance that other NPCs will suspect him to be infected (although you have to act fast to avoid them to kill each other, this is also a good thing as this distrust shows you that a NPC has been hit by a Thing and can now be infected).

Just when I'm working hard on the mod, the only guys interested in it are gone! ^^ Well, I had to think again about the NPC infection by other NPCs while you're not there, as I run into some weird situations when -*test*-('")ing, where a guy I had just blood--*test*-('")ed and who followed me bursted-out. I think I've found the problem now, but I had to get rid of the idea that letting a soldier with your team would protect them from distrust and infection. Maybe that's better this way anyway, as it will encourage paranoia from the player. With all the dynamics I've added now, things sure aren't easy to control. For instance, a NPC who is suspected by other NPCs will be afraid of them and could commit suicide if he is too terrified. So maybe you could leave him behind with another NPC you're unsure of, but what if one of them is a Thing ? They could be both Things when you'll come back here... Btw, the infection while you're not there dynamic is script-free, so it's the engine which controls it. A good news for me as it means a lot less scripting to do in the levels. ^^
