The Thing Ranks as #2 (according to CNN)
While I've never been one to place much stock in CNN, they at least are discerning enough to rank The Thing as #2 in providing "the most horrific moments": http://edition.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Movies/06/27/top10horror.tsr/index.html

Astonishly high on the list for a list made by a newsgroup. But still, The Ring as number one?! The movie was pretty scary, but it's a little overrated if you ask me.
