Thing influence
How many of you have seen TV shows that have episodes that you can tell are directly taken from The Thing? Care to list any? I know that Star Trek TNG had an episode with an alien life-form that was very much like the thing (and a lot of story similarities as well). Star Trek DS9 had a blood -*test*-('") scene in one episode that was used to find a shapeshifter. A CSI like show a few years ago called Medical Investigations had an episode that had many similarities to The Thing. Some similarites were: scenes of a helicopter flying through the snow which looked to be taken directly from The Thing. Scenes of a base camp which looked a lot like Outpost #31. And a story involving people going mad because of an infection. X-files had an episode much like The Thing involving a bacteria that made people go mad or something like that. Has anybody else noticed the influence The Thing has had on TV shows? I'm sure a lot of this is due to the writers of these shows and how they were influenced by The Thing. It is really nice to see how TV shows pay homage to The Thing in their own way.

In the episode of Top Gear where Clarkson, May and Hammond drove to the North Pole, the music from The Thing was used extensively, especially in parts when they found themselves in trouble. XidiouX

I never watch TV, so I haven't noticed any influence period. Not even in any movies. I personally think The Thing's influence needs to be more widely noticeable.

Did anyone see the South Park episode that involved lice and Cartman set out to find out who had it and who didn't? There was a scene where he was wearing Mac's outfit and they basically re-enacted the whole blood -*test*-('") scene. That was hilarious.

Yeah, I was both surprised and happy to see South Park paying homage.
