Thing thoughts... Ok, the thing crashed on earth tens of thousands of years ago, god only knows why it was coming to earth and he's not talking.
According to Blair's log, it wanted lifeforms on earth. Well, one wonders how blair would have known what it wanted.
Now here are some thoughts on the thing.
1. The thing had, one assumes, interstellar travel technology, so one wonders if it went on a drive to assimilate every other life form in the galaxy for whatever reason it might have. This would mean that the presumably it was lucky for earth that it crashed instead of landed safely. But if the thing was out to assimilate the galaxy, one wonders why no other of it's species came to earth in all those millenia.
I wonder if it's possible that other intelligent lifeforms went on a war to exterminate the thing to protect themselves. This would explain why none apparently ever came to earth again.
Also, if the war was bad enough it might explain why no intelligent life ever came to earth, they died off after the war with the thing, which left them too few survivors to go on, or they retreated into guarded fortress home systems for fear of it returning someday.
Perhaps the thing that came to earth was a fleeing refugee in a damaged ship, that would explain why it crashed. While it appeared intact in the instant we saw it, something like an EMP might not leave visible damage but still screw up the ship.
Now another alternative comes to mind: What if it deliberately crashed? Suppose it was the last hunted remnant of it's kind, and it wanted to escape by freezing on a primitive, uninhabited world in the hopes that thousands of years hence it might awaken in an age where it was unknown and forgotten?
Ok, in that case it succeeded.
I also wonder something else. What if the thing had a moral, ethical or practical objection or prohibition against just assimilating every lifeform? That might explain why none ever came to earth after the original and assimilated the place. The thing was intelligent, obviously, maybe it had some sort of moral or ethical system.
Anyone want to talk about these points?
