What would you do if. . .
. . . you were in a similar situation as the researchers, isolation wise, with people you knew as friends or family, and you walked in on someone (that was close to you) being assimilated, then imitated by the alien. What would you do and how do you think this would affect you emotionally and mentally? (For example, do you think you would simply dismiss it?) Keep in mind that everyone there is clueless as to what's going on besides you, and that the thing doesn't know that you know, unless if you tried to warn everyone else. Please be a hundred percent honest and don't go macho , unless it's what you really think you'd do.

Future Filmmaker- 04-13-2008

I'm sure Todd would go all macho. :D

Future Filmaker, what about you?

death_rocker110- 04-13-2008

I'd probably flip lol Seriously though I might break down for a bit then grab the nearest flammatory object I can get my hands on and chase its ass down!

Outpost Intruder- 04-13-2008

Really? What about the possibility of everyone else thinking you're insane, and attempting to stop you? And keep in mind that this thing is imitating someone that was close to you, like a friend or a family member. Would it really be that simple for you to just grease'm?

Z@3 Redrum- 04-14-2008

I think it's quite hard to imagine something like that. You can say that you would easily burn out your friends but I think you wouldn't if you really had to do it at that certain point. Hard to imagine.

Outpost Intruder- 04-14-2008

Yes, that's my point, and I agree with you wholeheartedly that most people wouldn't be able to do that kind of thing, or at least well in a sense of the greater good. However, there are also those who I suppose have what it takes to get the job done, like MacCready did, which probably involves experience, apathy, some kind of self-assuring promises, and etc. However, I think most people wouldn't also be prone to just simply dismissing it as some sort of illusion that was self-invented, which I could imagine being very possible, but since it's something so dark and disturbing, I'm convinced the majority of people would be encouraged to do something, whether it be simply staying away from that person, never going somewhere alone, or never sleeping. I just want you guys to attempt to imagine yourself in those shoes, and imagine what would be the most likely action you would take, and, from the top of my head, how you think things would be concluded.

death_rocker110- 04-15-2008

I can honestly say that I would definitely be getting my hands on the dumb son of a bitch one way or another after seeing it assimilate someone close to me. Anyone trying to stop me gets thrown down as far as I'm concerned.

Outpost Intruder- 04-15-2008

Lmao. . . That's kind of impressive, I guess? But you wouldn't somehow feel like that was that person instead of a thing pretending to be them? And what if the group managed to take you down? Blair style? How would you manage your way out of that? (Assuming you didn't stop the thing in time to care about being taken down. . .)

In the short story, Macready said something after the blood -*test*-('") was successful and all the infected men were revealed : ""In some ways - if only we could have permanently prevented their spreading - I'd like to have the imitations back." Creepy, isn't it ? Anyway, back to topic : it all depends of the situation... Would I really understand what has happened to my friend/family member ? If I do and I know that he/she is a Thing, then I would burn It, as I know that the original person is dead and gone. There is only a monster in disguise here. Of course, I won't say that it would be that easy... and the Thing in disguise could very well use my feelings towards the original person to Its advantage.

Outpost Intruder- 04-15-2008

. . . Creepy, isn't it ?I suppose when I think about it. . . but I also feel that it's an understandable attitude too. Of course, I won't say that it would be that easy... and the Thing in disguise could very well use my feelings towards the original person to Its advantage.Uh oh  What do you think you'd do then?

death_rocker110- 04-16-2008

If I were taken down Blair style I'd just have to let them figure it out on their own I suppose. After that, I'd be very skeptical over who's human and who isn't and I'd definitely get rid of my imitated family member, as difficult as it may be. I would indefinitely be hell-bent on getting rid of the thing permanently, that's one thing I know (no pun intended.)

Outpost Intruder- 04-16-2008

If you were overthrown from your agenda by everyone else, and probably locked away somewhere, what makes you think The Thing wouldn't take care of you first? Keeping that in mind, what do you think you would do if you knew you were going to be locked up somewhere, or woke up and realized they locked you up? (I don't know how exactly your friends and/or family would isolate you from anyone else, if at all, so you'd kind of have to inform me).

If I saw it...
Well, if it's not like the film where the organism was brought back and shown to everyone before hand? I'm not sure what I would do outside of arming myself and not getting much sleep. If I had the means and opportunity to kill it, damn straight I would. I don't know if I would though...

Well, if it's not like the film where the organism was brought back and shown to everyone before hand?Everyone has seen the deformed corpse, but are clueless as to what it is. And when you say you'd arm yourself and not get much sleep, does that mean you'd actually only guard yourself and not watch it and everyone else closely?
