Which one to get? Okay, so I'm thinking about getting the PC version of "The Thing". I'm looking on Amazon, and there are two versions of it: One by Sierra, and one by Vivendi Universal. Is there any difference between the two?
And also: I'm trying to get a hold of one of those PS2-controller-to-PC adapter thingies that'll let me play PC games with my PS2 controller (I can't stand using the keyboard). Does anyone know what the best one to get is, and where I might be able to get one? Thanks.

Not a clue about the gamepads for PC. Ask a salesperson at a Best Buy or Future Shop, I suppose.
But about the games... I don't ever remember Sierra on the cover of The Thing. I mean, there's Konami, Black Label Games, Vivendi Universal and Computer Artworks, but that's about it. You got links to these products on Amazon? I'd like to see the other game.
Oh, and th eone you probably want is the Vivendi Universal one... that's the one that this forum is based on.

I saw a Kiky X-Series something or other PS2 controller-to-PC adapter thing for sale on eBay, and that's the only one I could find for sale, but they only accept PayPal payments, and I don't use nor know how to use PayPal. :?
Anyway, here's the Vivendi Universal one:
http://www.amazon.com/Vivendi-Universal-The-Thing/dp/B00006662L/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/104-1830765-1734303?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1184802067&sr=1-3
And here's the Sierra one:
http://www.amazon.com/71771-The-Thing/dp/B00006HZ9D/ref=sr_1_4/104-1830765-1734303?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1184802067&sr=1-4
It may have just been a simple mistake though; they may be the same things. I'm still going with the one that says Vivendi Universal though, just in case.

I think I have the explanation about the Universal/Sierra stuff.
Black Label Games was a videogame producing company created by Universal which folded (much like the programmers of the game, Computer Artworks) and I guess Sierra must have retrieved Black Label Games' former projects.
Anyway, Sierra and Universal are only the producers of the game and it is the same one, don't worry about it.
By the way, something important : I originally designed my mod with the 1.2 version of the game, with the "freelook" mode activated as I didn't like the way aiming was handled at the beginning (bullets going everywhere, flamer automatically shooting at the floor and so on). With the freelook patch (which is version 1.2), you can aim as if you were in a fps game, and my "mod" makes it so that you also have some sort of fps view. Needless to say that I don't think it will be easy to play with a pad, and see how hard my version is...

Ah, okay. I'm still getting the Vivendi Universal one though, as I think I can get that one cheaper.

Ah, cool. I've only played the PS2 version, and I have that same problem (machine gun shoots everywhere, and the flamethrower hits the ground about three feet ahead of me), so it'll be an improvement. And also because I've only played the PS2 game, I'll be able to play the PC version better with a PS2 controller, seeing as how I play lots of PS2 games while I play no PC games and I suck at using the keyboard.

Ok, I hope it'll still be playable with the pad then. :)

Yeah, hopefully it should work. And if it does, then I'll play through it regularly once, and then I'll try out your mod if you release it. :P

Hey Pi,
I tried to play the game (PC version) with a gamepad, but it didn't work. It was almost as if the game only supports mouseand/or keyboard. If you manage to play the game with a gamepad, please let me know.

Damn, that sucks. I've heard of other people not being able to play with the Kiky X-Series with a lot of games, too. Oh well, I'll just buy the PC version and not the adapter, and I'll just have to get used to the keyboard controls. It really sucks, as I am completely unused to playing PC games, but it seems to be the only way. :|
